The Project
Domis Utilities acted as the integrated multi utility partner from early works through to handover, managing all utility related activities to protect the programme and budget. Our scope covered service disconnections, temporary water and temporary electric supplies to keep construction productive, and the full coordination of permanent utility connections sized for the completed neighbourhood. Delivery included the installation of a new substation and new water infrastructure, with all works planned and sequenced to align with build milestones and ensure a smooth transition to operation.
Our approach is permit first and programme led, with early engagement bringing approvals, isolations and inspections forward so critical path activities are de risked. One accountable team coordinated design, installation, testing and energisation to remove handoffs, reduce risk and achieve right first time outcomes. Complex infrastructure interfaces and off site works were managed in line with the main works so that dates were protected and disruption was minimised.
The development places landscape and community at its core, with award winning public green space of roughly three acres, walking trails and organic outdoor play areas for residents and families to enjoy throughout the year. Reliable permanent water and power now underpin homes, amenity spaces and estate services from day one, supporting a high quality living environment with excellent access to the city and local education and employment hubs.
By delivering the new substation, permanent utility connections and robust temporary strategies, Domis Utilities provided programme certainty and on time handover at Castle Irwell. The result is a regenerated riverside neighbourhood with future ready utilities that match the ambition of one of Greater Manchester’s most significant residential projects.
