The Project
Domis Utilities acted as the integrated utilities partner from early works to handover, managing all utility related activities to protect the programme and budget. Our scope covered service disconnections, temporary power and temporary water to keep construction productive, and the full coordination of permanent water and electrical connections sized for operational demand. Delivery included the installation of new low voltage supplies and the management of complex infrastructure and offsite works to ensure seamless energisation.
Our approach is permit first and programme led. Strong relationships with local authorities and statutory providers brought approvals forward and reduced risk on the critical path. One accountable team coordinated design, installation, testing and commissioning so that handoffs were removed and right first time outcomes were achieved in a constrained urban environment.
Technical delivery focused on a clean transition from temporary to permanent services. We sequenced isolations, metering, inspections and energisation in line with building completion, ensuring resilient capacity for day one operations and future growth. This integrated control supports safe operation, predictable running costs and simplified maintenance for the asset team.
The Youth Zone’s impact has been immediate. In its first month of operation, the facility recorded 5,366 attendances and served 3,391 hot meals. Since opening on 2 June, it has hosted 11,375 attendances and provided 7,652 meals, with membership reaching 3,778 against an original opening day target of 1,000 and surpassing the end of year goal of 3,000. The Youth Zone will create up to 70 jobs and up to 100 volunteering opportunities, supported by trained youth workers and dedicated volunteers who help Salford’s young people thrive.
By delivering new LV supplies, coordinating permanent water and power connections and maintaining robust temporary strategies, Domis Utilities provided programme certainty and on time, on budget handover for Salford Youth Zone. This project demonstrates utilities without uncertainty for a high impact community asset at the heart of Salford’s regeneration.
